Milton Berle

The UPAL programs at Lakeland are thoughtfully designed for ambitious and high-achieving students who are eager to embrace academic challenges, delve into specialized fields of study, and learn from dedicated, expert faculty. These programs go beyond simply teaching concepts; they bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, providing students with rich, real-world learning opportunities that make education both meaningful and relevant.

Core Themes

At the heart of UPAL’s curricula are five foundational themes that define a cutting-edge 21st-century education:

  • Collaboration

  • Problem-Solving

  • Critical Thinking

  • Research

  • Technology

These guiding principles shape the learning experiences within UPAL, equipping students not only for success in higher education but also for the evolving challenges and opportunities they will encounter in their careers and personal lives.

Through dynamic and innovative teaching strategies, UPAL educators create engaging learning environments where students are encouraged to think critically, work collaboratively, and apply their knowledge creatively. By tackling complex problems, conducting hands-on research, and utilizing advanced technologies, students develop the skills necessary to analyze information from diverse perspectives and craft practical solutions to real-world issues.

Real-World Exposure

A defining feature of UPAL programs is the emphasis on connecting classroom learning with real-world environments. Students gain invaluable exposure through:

  • Field Trips: Visits to industry-leading companies, cutting-edge academic institutions, and trade shows allow students to see practical applications of their studies.

  • Training Seminars: Participation in specialized workshops enhances their understanding of emerging trends and technologies.

  • Competitions: Engaging in academic and skill-based competitions challenges students to innovate and perform under pressure.

  • Guest Speakers: In-house presentations by industry experts, community leaders, and academic scholars inspire students with insights and real-life experiences.

These opportunities immerse students in professional and academic settings, helping them build networks, develop hands-on skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the industries and fields they aspire to enter. By combining rigorous academics with experiential learning, UPAL ensures that students graduate with both the knowledge and the practical skills needed to thrive in the 21st century.
